How do I handle PayPal timing out my session before I have completed entering in my information?
If you experience a time out while trying to order or if Paypal asks you to re-enter your information
and doesn't give you the option to continue further, you may have a cookie, browser,
or cache issue. You may also have a firewall issue. If you are trying to order or
make a donation from work, you could be experiencing a problem due to firewalls -- most work
computers use firewalls to filter Internet transactions to protect their networks.
Please follow the steps outlined below:
- The connection with your Internet service may be weak. Log out of your Internet service, reboot
your computer, and log back online.
- Try cleaning your temporary cache files to free up space, which also speeds your computer up and
prevents dropped lines from secure pages.
- Check to make sure your Internet connection is set
up to accept cookies. Cookies help our secure shopping cart process your order.
- Internet Explorer users will need to go online and open up the Internet Explorer browser.
Then on the top, left side of the screen, click on "Tools" then "Internet Options"
then "Privacy" and then "Sites." Once in the "Sites" screen, type
in www.paypal.com, click on "allow" and then click on "OK" and close
your screen.
- Firefox users will need to go online and open up the Firefox broswer. Then click on "Tools"
then "Options" then "Cookies." Make sure that the "Allow sites to set
cookies" checkbox is enabled, and when finished, you can click "OK."
- Netscape users will need to go online and open up the Netscape browser. Then click on
"Edit" then "Preferences" then "Privacy" (or advanced or security) then "Cookies" then "Accept
or enable cookies" and click on "OK."
- Mozilla users will need to go online and open up the Mozilla broswer. Then click on "Edit"
then "Preferences" then "Privacy" (or security) then "Popup Windows"
then "Allow Sites." Once in the sites area, type in www.paypal.com and click
"OK."
Once you've made the changes, restart your computer so the changes take affect.
- Secure web pages synchronize time with your computer. If you are a Windows user, check to make sure
the date and time on your computer are correct by clicking on "Start" in the lower left-hand
corner of your computer screen. Then clicking on "settings." Click on "control panel"
and double click on "date/time." Correct if necessary.
- You might need to change the settings on your firewall to allow cookies, or at least session cookies. See your firewall help or manual for details, or contact your work system administrator and alert them to your situation.
