Our Mission

"CancerFree KIDS strives to find a cure for childhood cancer by funding innovative research projects with breakthrough potential in early stages of development."
Ellen Flannery, Founder

The purpose and mission of CancerFree KIDS is to eradicate cancer as a life-threatening disease in children by funding promising research that might otherwise go unfunded.

CancerFree KIDS was founded by Ellen and Sam Flannery after their baby daughter was diagnosed with cancer in both of her eyes at 5 months of age. Today, thanks to cancer research, that baby is a healthy college graduate. At CancerFree KIDS, we do one thing. We fund childhood cancer research. Why?

Before promising new research has the potential to succeed, it must have resources to begin.

What we do

An idea, a theory, a what if. This is where all breakthroughs begin. For childhood cancer research, these are the sparks— the potentially transformative innovations— and we are the catalyst. By funding early-stage research that might otherwise go unfunded, CancerFree KIDS gives bold ideas the opportunity to revolutionize the way we treat childhood cancer.

We understand the complexities of research funding and the barriers that can limit meaningful progress, so we exist to accelerate what's possible. As a member of our community, you have a direct impact on researchers and the groundbreaking ideas that propel us toward our ultimate goal:

a future where childhood cancer is no longer a life-threatening disease
